‘Criminal defence is not end-of-life care. Fighting and being prepared for conflict are absolutely essential.’
These words, coined by a presiding judge at a regional court, aptly describe my understanding of criminal defence, as it has been taught during my training as a lawyer. It is not the question of guilt or innocence that determines the defence strategy but ensuring that formal and material law of a state under the rule of law is complied with, irrespective of the person of the defendant and the charges brought against them in every single case.
It is my objective to keep distress and anxiety related to the criminal charges at a minimum as soon as possible when representing a client. As a public main trial causes the most severe stress for a defendant, it must be the aim of (almost) every defence to avoid such an outcome.
With the exception of selected sports law cases, I have exclusively represented criminal cases from the whole range of criminal law for about the last 30 years.
I have forensic experience with trials before criminal chambers, BtMG (controlled substances law) proceedings and commercial criminal matters, as well as with criminal traffic matters and general criminal law.
I am a member of the Association of Berlin Defence Lawyers (Vereinigung Berliner Strafverteidiger), the Republican Lawyers Association (Republikanischer Anwaltsverein), the Criminal Law Committee of the German Bar Association (Arbeitsgemeinschaft Strafrecht im Deutschen Anwaltsverein) and Union Berlin.
